AQA A Level Law — 7162
AQA A Level Law (7162) spans the English legal system, criminal law, tort law, and a specialist optional topic. Papers 1 and 2 are each 2 hours and carry 80 marks. Paper 3 adds a further 60 marks across a 2-hour optional paper.
Paper 1 — The nature of law, the English legal system, and criminal law — all assessed by structured and extended writing.
Paper 2 — The law of tort alongside the English legal system, tested through source-based and essay questions.
Paper 3 — One optional topic fromContract Law, Human Rights, or the Law of Tort (further topics) — chosen by your centre.
Assessment Objectives — AO1 (knowledge and understanding), AO2 (application), and AO3 (analysis and evaluation) weighted across all three papers.
AS Level (7161) — A standalone two-paper qualification covering the English legal system and criminal law — useful for Year 12 progression.
Talimat tutors cover the full range of AQA A Level subjects. Whether your child needs support in Law or a closely related humanities subject, we have a specialist available.
+ further AQA A Level subjects available on request.

AQA A Level Law is demanding not because the content is obscure, but because examiners want more than description. They want application, analysis, and evaluation — in the right proportions across every paper. This section covers where students most often fall short and what changes with a dedicated tutor.
The most common difficulty in AQA A Level Law is not understanding cases or statutes — it is using them correctly under timed exam conditions. Students who can recall R v Woolin for oblique intent or cite Donoghue v Stevenson for duty of care still lose marks if they cannot structure an AO2 application paragraph clearly.
A 1:1 tutor can diagnose exactly where the breakdown happens: is it the IRAC structure, the weighting of AO3 evaluation, or the handling of Paper 3 source material? In a classroom of 25, that diagnosis rarely happens before a mock exam.
For families in the GCC whose children sit AQA through a British curriculum school, the challenge is compounded by the fact that Law is often self-directed outside the classroom. Online tutoring through Talimat means a qualified Law specialist reviews essay plans, marks practice questions to AQA mark schemes, and prepares your child for the specific optional topic their school has chosen for Paper 3.
Key takeaways
Every student is matched with a Law specialist, then guided through a structured plan that covers their specific papers, topics, and exam timeline.

A tutor works through your child's specific weak areas — whether that is structuring AO3 evaluation paragraphs, applying cases correctly in Paper 1 criminal law questions, or building confidence with Paper 3 source material. Every session is live and 1:1.
Our Law tutors can support all three AQA Paper 3 options: Contract Law, Human Rights, and the further Law of Tort topics. When you enquire, let us know which optional topic your school has chosen so we match you to the right specialist.
The jump is significant. A Level Law demands AO2 application and AO3 critical evaluation in every extended answer, not just case knowledge. Students who have done well at GCSE by memorising case names often find the A Level essay structure requires a different approach.
Yes. Our tutors cover both the AS Level (7161) and the full A Level (7162). AS Law covers two papers focusing on the English legal system and criminal law, and we tailor the session plan to whichever qualification your child is sitting.
Most families are matched with a tutor within 10 minutes of enquiring. You begin with a free trial session so your child can meet the tutor and work through a real past-paper question before any payment is made.
A Level tuition with Talimat starts from AED 65 per hour. There is no enrolment deposit and no hidden fees. You can cancel at any time.
Yes. All session preparation is built around the AQA A Level Law specification (7162) and the published mark scheme criteria. Essay plans and practice answers are assessed against the real AO1, AO2, and AO3 weightings your child will face in the exam.
Tell us when you enquire. We match your child to a tutor who can focus immediately on the gap, rather than starting from the beginning of the specification.
