SABIS Elementary World Language Curriculum
The SABIS World Language programme introduces a second language systematically from Grade 1, progressing through phonics, vocabulary sets, grammar structures, reading passages, and oral communication tasks. Each grade builds directly on the last, with regular Point System assessments tracking mastery at every stage.
Phonics and pronunciation — Letter sounds, blends, and word stress introduced and drilled from Grade 1
Vocabulary acquisition — Thematic word sets covering family, school, numbers, colours, food, and daily routines
Grammar structures — Noun gender, basic verb conjugation, sentence construction, and question forms by Grade 3
Reading comprehension — Short texts, sequenced readers, and inference questions from Grade 4 onward
Oral and written production — Guided speaking tasks and structured paragraph writing assessed in Grades 4 and 5

SABIS Elementary uses a numerical percentage grading system internally, with periodic Point System assessments. Students progress through structured objectives, and results are tracked continuously to identify gaps before they become barriers.
Top Performers – Distinction Award
Students scoring at distinction level demonstrate consistent mastery of all World Language objectives across reading, writing, listening, and speaking for their grade.
The internal grading scale shown is specific to the SABIS Elementary programme and may differ from external qualification scales used in other Talimat programmes. Speak to your Academic Consultant for guidance specific to your child's school.

The SABIS World Language programme moves faster than most children expect. New vocabulary sets, grammar rules, and oral tasks arrive in every unit, and the Point System records every gap. This section explains where students typically struggle and what a specialist tutor changes.
The SABIS World Language curriculum introduces a second language through carefully sequenced objectives, starting with phonics and basic vocabulary in Grade 1 and building toward structured paragraph writing and guided conversation by Grade 5.
For expat families arriving mid-year, the challenge is acute. A child joining a SABIS school in Grade 3 from a different school system may have covered none of the prior vocabulary sets or grammar points that their classmates built in Grades 1 and 2.
A 1:1 tutor who knows the SABIS World Language sequence can run a rapid diagnostic, identify the missing objectives, and rebuild that foundation before the next periodic assessment. That is something a classroom teacher with thirty students cannot replicate.
