Cambridge O Level Mathematics Syllabus D (4024) is a demanding terminal qualification that tests both procedural fluency and mathematical reasoning across two papers. This section covers what makes it hard and what 1:1 tutoring changes.
Cambridge O Level Mathematics Syllabus D (code 4024) is assessed across Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is a 2-hour non-calculator paper worth 80 marks; Paper 2 is a 2.5-hour calculator paper worth 100 marks.
Both papers use command words such as calculate, show that, prove, deduce, and hence. Students who miss the distinction between these lose marks even when their mathematical working is correct.
A 1:1 tutor works through past paper questions with your child in real time, drilling the specific response format each command word demands and building the algebraic fluency needed for Syllabus D's harder structured questions.

Syllabus 4024 — Paper 1 and Paper 2
Syllabus D covers six content domains: number, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, and statistics and probability. Paper 1 tests mental agility without a calculator; Paper 2 introduces calculus, matrices, and harder problem-solving. Both reward structured working.
Paper 1 — 80 marks, 2 hours, no calculator — number, algebra, and geometry under exam conditions
Paper 2 — 100 marks, 2.5 hours, calculator allowed — includes matrices, calculus, and probability
Assessment Objective AO1 — Knowledge and understanding of mathematical techniques
Assessment Objective AO2 — Application, analysis, and problem-solving in unfamiliar contexts
Command words — 'Calculate', 'show that', 'hence', 'deduce', 'prove' — each demands a different answer format
Cambridge O Level Mathematics Syllabus D uses an eight-level letter scale from A* (highest) to G. Each grade reflects a specific range of marks across both examination papers.
Top Performers – A* Award
An A* grade in Cambridge O Level Mathematics Syllabus D requires consistently high marks across both Paper 1 and Paper 2, demonstrating mastery of all six content domains.
The grading scale shown applies specifically to Cambridge O Level qualifications and may differ from Pearson Edexcel or other programmes; speak to your Academic Consultant for board-specific guidance.

Share your child's current grade, target grade, and which Syllabus D topics need the most work. Your Academic Consultant uses this to shortlist tutors with a proven O Level Maths track record.
Review your tutor's subject degree, teaching background, and availability. Every tutor has passed a 14-step vetting process and holds a relevant degree in mathematics or a closely related discipline.
Your first session is free. The tutor identifies specific gaps in your child's Syllabus D knowledge, whether that is algebraic manipulation, trigonometric proofs, or interpreting statistical data.
After the trial, your tutor builds a study plan mapped to Paper 1 and Paper 2 topics. Sessions run Monday to Saturday at a time that fits your family's schedule across any Gulf time zone.
All tutors hold a maths degree and have passed our 14-step vetting process.

Syllabus D (4024) is Cambridge's O Level qualification, used primarily in the UK independent school system and certain international regions. IGCSE Mathematics (0580) is more widely available globally. Both are assessed across two papers and accepted for university entry, but they use different syllabuses and question styles.
Paper 1 is non-calculator. Paper 2 permits a scientific calculator. Your tutor will train your child to work efficiently without a calculator for Paper 1 and to use one strategically for Paper 2's longer structured questions.
Paper 2 typically awards the highest mark allocations to algebra, trigonometry, and statistics and probability. Questions on matrices, functions, and calculus also appear and can involve multi-step working worth 6 to 10 marks each.
Your Academic Consultant identifies tutors who hold a mathematics degree and have demonstrable experience with the 4024 syllabus structure and its mark-scheme conventions. You can review the tutor's background before confirming.
Yes. Talimat accepts mid-year starts at any point in the academic cycle. Your tutor will prioritise the topics most likely to appear in the upcoming paper and build a structured revision plan from the first session.
Talimat is not a Cambridge registered centre. Students sit Cambridge O Level examinations at approved Cambridge exam centres such as the British Council Dubai or their own registered school centre.
Nothing changes. Sessions are fully online and run Monday to Saturday, Gulf Standard Time. If your family moves between the UAE, KSA, Qatar, or Oman, your tutor and schedule remain in place.
Grades run from A* (highest) to G. The final grade reflects marks across both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Grade boundaries vary by session and are set by CAIE after each examination series.
