OCR A Level Economics — H460
OCR A Level Economics (H460) spans microeconomics, macroeconomics, and a synoptic paper. Students sit three written exams at the end of Year 13, each requiring data analysis, extended writing, and confident command of economic theory.
Component 1 — Microeconomics: markets, price mechanisms, market failure, and competition policy.
Component 2 — Macroeconomics: national and international economy, monetary and fiscal policy.
Component 3 — Synoptic Paper: integrates micro and macro across unseen data sets and essay questions.
Assessment — All three papers sat at the end of Year 13. No coursework component.
Grading — A to E letter scale. Top performers achieve a Grade A across all three papers.
Our tutors cover a wide range of A Level subjects across OCR, AQA, and Edexcel. Every session is live and 1:1, tailored to your child's specific syllabus.
+ many more subjects available on request.
OCR A Level Economics uses a five-grade letter scale from A to E. Grade A is the highest attainable. Results are determined entirely by performance across three written examinations sat at the end of Year 13.
Top Performers – Grade A Award
Grade A requires consistent command of economic theory, strong data interpretation, and high-quality extended writing across all three OCR papers.
The grading scale shown reflects OCR A Level qualifications and may differ from other A Level or IGCSE programmes offered through Cambridge or Pearson. Speak to your Academic Consultant for board-specific guidance.

OCR A Level Economics is demanding at every stage, from mastering market failure in Year 12 to writing synoptic essays under timed conditions in Year 13. A specialist tutor closes the gap between classroom instruction and the depth the exam actually rewards. This section explains what makes the subject hard and what targeted support changes.
OCR A Level Economics (specification H460) covers microeconomics, macroeconomics, and a synoptic third paper. Students must apply theory to unseen data, evaluate policy arguments, and write under timed conditions.
For British curriculum families in the GCC, the challenge is compounded by large class sizes in international schools, where individual misconceptions rarely get addressed before they compound across topics.
A Talimat A-Level tutoring session is live and 1:1. The tutor identifies gaps in real time, works through OCR mark-scheme logic, and builds the essay technique that examiners reward. Students also benefit from mock exam practice with written feedback before their actual papers.
