UK GCSE results were released on Thursday 20 August 2026, according to JCQ. IGCSE dates depend on the exam board, so many UAE families had two dates to track.

What is happening with GCSE resits in 2026?
This was the day's biggest talking point. Nearly 200,000 UK pupils did not get a grade 4 in both English and maths, PA analysis reported. In England, those students must keep studying and resit.
The results are tough. Post-16 resit pass rates fell to just 15.3% in maths and 19.8% in English, FE Week reported. Education Secretary Lucy Powell said she wants to end the resit "treadmill of failure" and is developing new "stepping stone" qualifications.
