Edexcel A Level English Literature demands far more than literary appreciation. Students must produce sustained, evaluative arguments across five distinct assessment objectives, under timed conditions, while managing independent coursework. This section explains where students struggle and what targeted tutoring actually changes.
Edexcel A Level English Literature (specification code 9ET0) is assessed across three linear papers and one Non-Examined Assessment component.
Paper 1 (Drama) and Paper 2 (Prose) test close reading and comparative analysis of set texts. Paper 3 tests unseen poetry and the study of a named poet.
The NEA coursework portfolio requires students to produce independent critical and creative writing, worth 20% of the final grade.

Specification 9ET0 — Linear A Level
The Pearson Edexcel A Level English Literature specification (9ET0) is assessed through three written papers and one NEA coursework component. Paper 1 covers drama, Paper 2 covers prose, Paper 3 covers poetry, and the NEA requires independent critical and creative writing. All papers carry AO1 to AO5 assessment objectives weighted differently per component.
Paper 1 (9ET0/01) — Drama: comparative essay on two set texts, 2 hours 15 minutes, 30% of A Level
Paper 2 (9ET0/02) — Prose: one set text plus unseen extract, 1 hour 15 minutes, 20% of A Level
Paper 3 (9ET0/03) — Poetry: named poet studied plus unseen poem, 2 hours 15 minutes, 30% of A Level
NEA (9ET0/04) — Coursework: one critical essay and one creative piece, 20% of A Level
AS Level (8ET0) — Standalone qualification: Papers 1 and 2 only, graded A to E, does not count towards A Level
Pearson Edexcel GCE A Level uses a five-grade letter scale from A to E. Grade A* is awarded at A Level only, to candidates who achieve grade A overall and score 90% or above across the A2 components.
Top Performers – Grade A Award
Grade A at Edexcel A Level English Literature requires consistent high-level evaluation across AO1 to AO5, demonstrating sophisticated comparative analysis and independent critical judgement throughout all four components.

Edexcel AS Level (8ET0) is a standalone two-paper qualification graded A to E. It does not contribute to the full A Level (9ET0) grade. A Level includes three papers plus NEA coursework and awards grades A* to E across all four components.
Set texts vary by option choice within each paper. Talimat tutors cover all Edexcel-approved drama, prose, and poetry options. At enquiry, share your school's text selections and your tutor will be matched accordingly.
The NEA (9ET0/04) requires one critical essay and one piece of creative writing, each responding to independently selected literary texts. It is worth 20% of the final A Level grade and is marked by your school, then moderated by Pearson.
AO1 assesses articulate, informed response using relevant concepts and terminology. AO2 analyses language, form, and structure. AO3 requires contextual understanding. AO4 applies connections across literary texts. AO5 explores interpretations and debates. Each paper weights these objectives differently.
A Level tutoring starts from AED 65 per hour. There is no enrolment deposit and you can cancel at any time. Pricing reflects the specialist qualification level and the tutor's degree-level subject expertise.
Yes. Talimat tutors plan sessions around your most pressing deadlines. If NEA submission is approaching, your tutor will prioritise draft feedback and AO weighting. Paper 3 unseen technique can be maintained through shorter, targeted practice in the same session.
Pearson Edexcel GCE exams are available at approved centres across the Gulf. Students in Dubai can sit exams at the British Council Dubai. Your school or your Academic Consultant can confirm the nearest registered Edexcel examination centre in your city.
Yes. Talimat tutors cover both the AS Level (8ET0) standalone qualification and the full A Level (9ET0). Whether your child is completing AS in Year 12 or progressing through the two-year linear course, sessions are mapped to the relevant papers and components.
