MYP Arts — All Subject Groups
MYP Arts spans visual arts, music, drama, and dance. Each subject is assessed through four criteria: investigating, developing, creating or performing, and evaluating. Together, these build the creative and reflective skills students carry into the IB Diploma Programme.
Criterion A — Investigating — Exploring artistic intention, influences, and context through inquiry
Criterion B — Developing — Experimenting with skills, techniques, and processes
Criterion C — Creating or Performing — Realising the artistic intention in a finished piece or performance
Criterion D — Evaluating — Reflecting critically on the artistic process and outcomes
eAssessment Ready — On-screen examination preparation for MYP Year 5 students
Talimat tutors support all four MYP Arts subject groups, each with its own assessment criteria and creative disciplines, from studio practice to live performance.
+ interdisciplinary arts units and Personal Project arts pathways available on request.
MYP Arts uses a criterion-based grading scale of 1 to 7, where 7 is the highest achievement level. Final grades reflect performance across all four subject-specific assessment criteria.
Top Performers – Grade 7 Award
A Grade 7 in MYP Arts reflects outstanding creative intention, highly developed technique, a polished final piece or performance, and insightful critical reflection across all four criteria.
The grading scale shown reflects the IB MYP framework and may differ from other IB, Cambridge, or Edexcel programmes. Speak to your Academic Consultant for subject-specific grade boundary guidance.

MYP Arts is assessed entirely through criteria, not just creative output. Students must demonstrate artistic intention, document a development process, produce or perform a final piece, and evaluate their own work critically. This section explains what that means in practice.
The four MYP Arts criteria assess very different skills. Criterion A requires students to investigate artists, styles, and contexts, then articulate a clear creative intention. Criterion B asks them to show experimentation and skill-building through a process portfolio.
Criterion C is the creative or performance output itself, where the intention from Criterion A must be visibly realised. Criterion D then requires written or recorded reflection that honestly evaluates what worked, what did not, and why.
Many students are naturally strong in one or two criteria and underprepared for the others. A 1:1 IB MYP Arts tutor helps students build all four strands, so no criterion pulls the final grade down.

Clear answers to the questions families ask most before booking their first session.
A tutor works through all four assessment criteria with your child: researching artistic context (Criterion A), building a process portfolio (Criterion B), refining the final piece or performance (Criterion C), and writing strong critical reflections (Criterion D).
Talimat tutors support all four MYP Arts subject groups: visual arts, music, drama, and dance. Sessions are matched to your child's specific subject and current unit, not delivered as a generic arts class.
Yes. MYP Arts is framework-driven, not syllabus-driven. Tutors work with whatever unit your child's school has set, applying the four criteria to the specific key concept, global context, and statement of inquiry your child is exploring.
Every session is live and 1:1. The tutor reviews your child's current work across the relevant criteria, sets a focused task, gives feedback, and agrees on what to complete before the next session. No group classes, no recorded videos.
The earlier the better, but it is never too late. Starting at the beginning of a unit gives the most time to build a strong process portfolio. Starting close to a deadline still helps students strengthen their Criterion D reflections and final presentation.
Yes. Every new student starts with a free trial session. Your child's tutor will review their current unit, assess their criterion strengths and gaps, and outline a clear plan before any payment is required.
MYP Arts uses four subject-specific criteria assessed by the classroom teacher, not a single external examiner mark scheme. There is no written exam in most MYP Arts courses, but MYP Year 5 students may sit an on-screen eAssessment. The focus is on inquiry, process, and reflection rather than a final portfolio alone.
Absolutely. The inquiry, reflection, and creative documentation skills built in MYP Arts directly support the IB Diploma's Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, and Dance courses. A strong MYP Arts foundation also benefits the Extended Essay and CAS component.
