College Board AP Precalculus — Course Framework
AP Precalculus spans four units: polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric and polar functions, and functions involving parameters, vectors, and matrices. The exam is 3 hours long, split between a 40-question multiple-choice section and a four-question free-response section.
Unit 1 — Polynomial and rational functions, zeros, asymptotes, and transformations
Unit 2 — Exponential and logarithmic functions, including inverse relationships
Unit 3 — Trigonometric and polar functions, sinusoidal modelling, and the unit circle
Unit 4 — Functions involving parameters, vectors, and matrices
FRQ Section — Four questions: two calculator, two non-calculator, one of which is a graphing task
Alongside AP Precalculus, our tutors cover the full College Board AP catalogue. Pair your maths prep with a science or humanities course for a stronger university application.

The College Board scores AP exams on a 1 to 5 scale. A score of 3 is considered passing, while scores of 4 and 5 signal strong college readiness and are most likely to earn credit.
Top Performers: AP Score 5 Award
A score of 5 on the AP Precalculus exam demonstrates thorough mastery of all four units and consistently correct reasoning across both multiple-choice and free-response sections.
The AP 1 to 5 scale shown here applies specifically to College Board Advanced Placement examinations and differs from Cambridge IGCSE, IB, and other qualifications. Speak with your Academic Consultant for board-specific guidance.

AP Precalculus is not simply a recap of high school maths. The College Board course demands fluency with function families, analytical reasoning, and calculator-based problem solving in a single exam sitting. Here is what that means for your child's preparation.
AP Precalculus sits at the intersection of algebra and calculus readiness. Unlike a standard precalculus course, the College Board version is built around four Big Ideas: change, function modelling, equivalence, and analysis of function. Students must not only recall procedures but justify their reasoning clearly in free-response questions.
For families in the GCC, AP is increasingly accepted by UK, US, Canadian, and Australian universities as evidence of academic rigour. A score of 4 or 5 on the AP Precalculus exam can satisfy a university's quantitative prerequisite before a student has even enrolled.
The free-response section includes a required graphing task, where students construct, interpret, and justify a function model in context. Without structured practice, this task is where marks are most commonly lost. A dedicated AP Precalculus tutor works through past FRQ papers systematically, building the specific reasoning habits the exam rewards.

Not necessarily. Many students in the GCC take AP exams independently through a registered AP school or exam centre. Your Academic Consultant can advise on exam registration alongside tutoring.
Yes. The College Board course is built around four Big Ideas and requires students to justify their reasoning in writing, not just produce a numerical answer. The FRQ section in particular rewards analytical thinking that standard precalculus courses do not always develop.
Starting at the beginning of the academic year is ideal, since Unit 1 builds the foundation for everything that follows. That said, mid-year starts are fully supported and our tutors can run a diagnostic to identify gaps quickly.
Yes. Because all sessions are live online, there is no disruption when a family relocates. Your tutor, schedule, and Academic Consultant remain the same regardless of which country you are in.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes. Most AP Precalculus students attend once or twice a week, increasing frequency in the weeks before the May exam. Your tutor will recommend a cadence based on your child's diagnostic results.
Yes. Mock exams and structured feedback are included as part of the platform. Your tutor will use past College Board free-response questions and multiple-choice sets to simulate real exam conditions ahead of the sitting.
Sessions run Monday to Saturday, Gulf Standard Time. Our tutors are available across a wide range of time slots to suit families in the UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman, and beyond.
Absolutely. Many of our students are taking their first AP course. Your tutor will orient your child to the College Board exam format, scoring expectations, and free-response conventions from the very first session.
