AP Physics 2 — College Board Course Framework
The AP Physics 2 exam covers fluids, thermodynamics, electric force and fields, circuits, magnetism, optics, and modern physics. The 3-hour exam includes 50 multiple-choice questions and four free-response questions, testing both conceptual understanding and quantitative reasoning without calculus.
Unit 1 Fluids — Pressure, buoyancy, continuity, and Bernoulli's principle
Units 4–5 Electric Force and Fields — Coulomb's Law, field diagrams, Gauss's Law concepts
Unit 6 DC Circuits — Kirchhoff's rules, resistors, capacitors in steady state
Unit 8 Geometric and Physical Optics — Snell's Law, lenses, mirrors, diffraction, interference
Units 9–10 Modern Physics — Photoelectric effect, atomic models, nuclear decay, mass-energy equivalence
Our tutors support students across the full College Board AP programme, as well as Cambridge IGCSE subjects, A-Levels, IB, and Edexcel qualifications available at international schools across the GCC.
+ additional AP subjects and test prep (SAT, EmSAT, IELTS) available on request.
AP exams are scored on a 1 to 5 scale by College Board. A score of 3 is considered passing and may qualify for college credit, while scores of 4 and 5 demonstrate college-level proficiency.
Top Performers — Score 5 Award
A score of 5 on AP Physics 2 signals that a student is extremely well qualified and demonstrates thorough mastery of college-level physics concepts and quantitative reasoning.
The AP 1 to 5 scoring scale shown applies to College Board AP examinations and differs from Cambridge IGCSE, Edexcel, IB, and other qualification grading systems; speak to your Academic Consultant for guidance specific to your programme.

AP Physics 2 Algebra-Based is one of the most conceptually demanding AP sciences. Students who struggle usually do so in the free-response section, where multi-step reasoning and written justification carry heavy marks. This section explains what makes the course hard and what targeted tuition changes.
AP Physics 2 covers topics that many students encounter for the first time: fluid statics and dynamics, thermodynamic cycles, electric fields, magnetic induction, wave optics, and quantum and nuclear physics. Unlike AP Physics 1, which revisits Newtonian mechanics, AP Physics 2 introduces entirely new Big Ideas in every unit.
For families moving through the GCC mid-year, the challenge is compounded. A student transferring from a British curriculum school may have covered some electrostatics through IGCSE Physics but will not have seen Gauss's Law concepts, RC circuits, or the photoelectric effect in the same depth or AP framing.
The AP Physics 2 exam allocates roughly 50% of marks to the four free-response questions, including one that requires a full paragraph-length written justification of a physics argument. A 1:1 AP Physics 2 tutor can practise these specific question types with a student in a way that a classroom setting rarely allows.

Share which AP Physics 2 units your student is working on, their current score target, and any specific weak areas such as circuits or optics. Your Academic Consultant uses this to find the right tutor.
We match you with a vetted AP Physics 2 tutor, typically within 10 minutes. Every tutor holds a relevant degree and has passed our 14-step vetting process.
Your first session is free. The tutor assesses conceptual understanding, works through a real AP-style question, and sets the tone for future sessions. No payment is taken until you decide to continue.
After the trial, your tutor and Academic Consultant build a personalised study plan aligned to the AP Physics 2 exam date in May, covering remaining units and prioritising free-response practice.

Buoyancy, pressure, the first and second laws of thermodynamics, heat engines, and entropy. Students often underestimate these units before hitting electrostatics.

College Board recommends completing AP Physics 1 or an equivalent algebra-based physics course first. AP Physics 2 builds directly on mechanics concepts and introduces entirely new content, so prior physics exposure matters.
AP Physics 2 uses algebra only, while AP Physics C: E&M requires calculus (integral and differential). AP Physics 2 also covers fluids, thermodynamics, optics, and modern physics, making it a broader but less mathematically intensive course.
AP Physics 2 is examined each May as part of the College Board AP exam series. Students in the GCC typically sit their exams at an authorised AP testing centre. Your Academic Consultant can help you identify the nearest centre.
Yes. Our tutors regularly support students who have transferred schools or fallen behind. The Academic Consultant will map the student's current position against the full AP Physics 2 unit structure and prioritise accordingly.
The AP Physics 2 exam includes four free-response questions, which together account for approximately 50% of the total exam score. One of these requires a written paragraph-length justification of a physics argument.
Sessions are live and 1:1 via our online platform. The tutor works through AP-style problems, explains the underlying physics conceptually, and practises free-response tasks including written justification and diagram drawing. Every session follows the student's personalised study plan.
Yes. We serve students across the GCC including KSA, UAE, Qatar, and Oman. Sessions run Monday to Saturday on Gulf Standard Time, and tutors are matched to fit your local schedule.
Every Talimat tutor holds a relevant degree in their subject area and has passed our 14-step vetting process. AP Physics 2 tutors typically hold degrees in physics, engineering, or a closely related STEM discipline.
